We had a great time celebrating reading this week at Kelly Lane! We even had a special mystery reader, Dr. Grossman,
visit us!

We are bonding with number bonds in Mrs. Kibby's Kindergarten class!
Number bonds help children see the relationship between addition and subtraction.

In preschool speech and language we’re using story puzzles to describe pictures, work on our narratives and practice verb tense and word endings! Some of the speech students may be virtual, but it doesn’t mean we can’t have fun in a sensory bin! We’re using Boom Cards to look for winter clothes and to talk about where and why you wear them!

Mrs. Diemer’s class is taking ownership of their learning in writing! Look how many nonfiction text features they used in their pieces!

Writers in Miss Goldberg's class practiced writing in small steps and acting them out together to build the perfect ice cream sundae!

Miss Ferreri's class had a blast celebrating being 101 days smarter by having "101 Dalmatian Day". Everyone was PAWsitively adorable! Our class has spent the month of February filling each other's buckets by being kind to one another. Sometimes we even get to visit Mrs. Bava with a PAWsitive office referral!

This year we wear clear masks in therapy sessions while working on our speech sounds. Some of our students use augmentative or alternative communication devices (AAC) to communicate with others.

Students in Mrs. Budlong's second grade class created a poster of MLK to celebrate equality and peaceful cooperation. This work inspired us to work collaboratively across the curriculum.

It's the 100th day of school and we are all excited at Kelly Lane!

Kelly Lane Families,
Tuesday, February 9th, will be a remote learning day for all students. Your child's teacher will be communicating out specific schedules. Please note that we have a delayed start and there will be no morning PreK.

Mrs. Buder’s class had a great time playing in the snow! We also had a treasure hunt to celebrate filling our classroom bucket!

Mrs. Bisaillon’s class enjoyed playing in the snow! Climbing and sliding the snow mountains was so fun!

Hello Kelly Lane Families,
Superintendent Grossman has announced that Tuesday, February 2, will be a remote learning day for all students. Teachers will send communication regarding the specifics to the daily schedule. Please note that we have a later start and there will be no morning PreK. Stay warm!

We are hard at work in the resource room! We often use resources and materials that are different from the traditional curriculum. Take a peek at some of the items we have been using for math and ELA lately!

Granby schools will have an early release today, and no pm PreK.

We read "Stranger in the Woods" about two children who build a snowman in the forest. They use nuts for the eyes and mouth, a carrot for the nose, birdseed in the hat, and they sprinkle corn around the bottom of the snowman. The animals come to investigate the "stranger in the woods" and find good treats to eat. Our class made a connection between this story and one we read in December called Night Tree. This book is about a family who decorates a tree in the forest every Christmas with popcorn strings, apples, and nuts. The animals who discover this tree also find good treats to eat. We made bird feeders out of pinecones to celebrate these books and to feed our feathered friends.

Students in Ms. Iapichino's Spanish classes are presently learning vocabulary related to clothing and other clothing accessories. In addition, they are learning appropriate clothes worn during the winter, spring, summer and fall.

"Snaps-off" to all of the poets in Ms. Stone's second grade class! In our new poetry unit students have been exploring strategies, like line breaks, that poets use to write poems. We have been using our five senses to include descriptive literary language!

Students in Mrs. Sessions' class have been working hard on our Realistic Fiction Writing unit. Students use a variety of tools, such as anchor charts, checklists and goal sheets to remind them of the basic qualities and expectations in their writing. This allows the teacher to step back and leaves the students to take ownership of their writing and see their growth.

Snowy Song Alert from Mrs. Spellman-Cloutier's kindergarten class!
We learned a new song that we sang and acted out to the tune of "I'm a Little Teapot". We listened for the rhymes and then the children found and highlighted some of our "snap words". The song will be a great addition to their Poetry Folder!
