Miss Stryker’s 3rd grade class has been working hard in their measurement unit in math. Students can measure objects to the nearest half and quarter inch. The class enjoyed measuring real life objects around the classroom!
Pentominoes are wonderful visual models for students to use that help with concepts such as perimeter, symmetry and for developing spatial reasoning. Plus, they are colorful and fun to play with. This week at Wells Road, members of the Student Council took their talents down to the 3rd grade. Using skills they learned at our Leadership Conference in January, they planned and implemented a lesson on the importance of communication to Mrs. Lagun Brando's class. According to Mrs. L-B, the student leaders were, "prepared and very knowledgeable!" The third graders were engaged and gave "rave reviews" of the lesson taught by their older peers. These lessons will continue after the April break, with the addition of lessons on the topic of inclusion as well. Well done, Student Council! - Mrs. Proto, 4th Grade Teacher

Students in Mrs. Lagun-Brandao and Mrs. Bavol's third grade classes participated in ELA centers to practice their test-taking skills before SBAC. These centers helped students apply their knowledge of claims, reasons, and evidence in a fun, engaging way. The Speech Department at the Wells Road School has just completed a figurative language contest. Ten posters with pictures of idioms were displayed in the hallway. All students, from any classroom, could tell what the expressions meant and win a prize as well as have their name displayed on the WALL OF FAME.
In addition, some students made Figurative Language Books. They drew pictures of the idioms and explained what they meant. Teachers and students had interesting discussions about figurative language!

Students across all grade levels are working on math fact fluency and charting their progress in Math Intervention. Whether it's addition and subtraction or multiplication and division, they are setting goals and charting their progress towards those goals. Did you know that students should know their addition and subtraction facts within 20 from memory by the end of second grade? They should also know from memory all products (multiplication) of two 1 digit numbers (through 9x9) by the end of third grade. Miss Belanger's / Mrs Lecco's third grade class has been exploring fraction circles before we start our fraction unit.
Fifth grade journalists earned a promotion during their informational writing unit! They began the unit writing brief current events and progressed to publishing a feature article about an animal they researched, including some reasons of why it is so important to our world. All Granby Public Schools will follow the weather-related early dismissal schedule today, Wednesday, January 25th, to ensure buses are not transporting students if roads become hazardous this afternoon.

Ms. Jackson's groups have worked on learning and identifying a variety of feelings in different categories and how to identify their own feelings. They also identified what tools/strategies help them when they are having strong emotions.
Just a reminder that today, Wednesday, January 11th, is an Early Release Day. We begin dismissal at 12:50.
On Friday, December 23, all Granby Public Schools will follow a weather-related early dismissal schedule to ensure buses are not transporting students in case the temperature drops and roads become hazardous. Wells Road will dismiss at 11:45. We will not serve lunch, however breakfast will be available for usual purchase.
