Ms. Guilmartin’s first graders have been busy building friendships, practicing classroom routines, and learning how to work together! One of our favorite parts of the day is soft start, where students ease into their morning through hands-on activities, collaboration, and creativity! This time allows students to connect with different classmates, practice teamwork, and get ready for a great day of learning!

Today’s Officer Dufresne Day was a tremendous success. Students and staff across the district celebrated Officer Chris Dufresne as he prepares to run the New York City Marathon on November 1 in support of the CMAK Foundation’s Race 4 Chase program.

Throughout the day, students and staff wore hats, created signs and cards, and shared messages of encouragement and support. It was wonderful to see our schools come together to recognize Officer Dufresne and the positive relationships he has built with students and staff throughout Granby Public Schools.

Students in Ms. Farley's first grade class are exploring pattern blocks and the ways they can use them. They have worked on creating fun designs and patterns and have found different ways to sort and group pattern blocks. Students have used playdough as a tool to help them shape the letters in their name. This has been a fun way to help them remember how to spell their names and what those letters look like. They have also been working on personal narratives during writing. Students have practiced using detailed pictures, labels and sentences to tell their stories. stories.

What an incredible first week at Kelly Lane! Preschool filled the hallways with favorite songs and new routines, while kindergarten jumped right into hands-on fine motor skill practice. First graders were already showing off their reading superpowers with new words, and second grade hit the ground running straight into math. Over in Unified Arts, students wrapped up their second class by mastering warm-ups, learning new songs, and diving into fun new games. It’s been an amazing start, and we couldn't be prouder of our learners!

The students in Mrs. Sessions’ first-grade class officially filled their Kelly Lane Cares Bucket! 🪣✨ These hard workers have been doing an amazing job taking care of themselves, each other, and our school.

To celebrate on this hot day, what could be more perfect than a Beach Day? ☀️🏖️

They kept the learning going by diving into a fun math craftivity called "Don't Bug Me, I'm Measuring!", had a beach blanket snack and wrapped up the day with some high-energy beach dancing movement breaks. 💃🕺 Way to go, first grade friends!

Here at Kelly Lane Primary School we focus on creating an inclusive space for all students. We believe communication is more than spoken words, it’s connection, autonomy, and belonging. That’s why the speech team created a school bulletin board to celebrate inclusivity and honor all ways students communicate. The display highlights spoken language, AAC device programs like Proloquo2Go, communication boards, gestures, and American Sign Language. We want to reinforce that every voice matters, whether it’s spoken, signed, or selected on a screen.

By visually representing multiple modes of communication, we’re helping students, staff, and families understand that communication isn’t one-size-fits-all. It’s about access, respect, and creating a school culture where every child is seen, heard, and valued.

Students at Kelly Lane celebrated Earth Day in a variety of meaningful ways. Some classes enjoyed nature walks, while others created new items using recycled materials. Another group crafted paper Earths from recycled paper embedded with flower seeds. These creations will be planted in homes throughout Granby to help support and encourage local pollinators.

Happy Earth Day!
