According to current research, the rate of childhood anxiety is rising. Grounding exercises are activities that children can use to reduce anxiety and focus on the present moment. They work by engaging the senses and interrupting the mind-body automatic response to anxiety. Try this one with your child. It works for adults too :)
Please contact Dr. MacDonald if you have concerns about your child's social-emotional well-being. macdonaldh@granbyschools.org or 860-844-3048 ext 6323

In honor of the Valentine holiday this week, writers in Mrs. LaFlamme's 5th grade classes wrote letters to things they love! Topics ranged from animals, sports, vacation spots, family, pets, video games, food and more! Love letters are hanging up outside the classroom for all to see!

I hope you will join us!

Students are creating all sorts of fun projects in art class this month including clay animals, painted portraits, paper weaving, and more! We have a lot of fun during our NOW extra art sessions where students get to explore a variety of materials like watercolor paint and collage. - Mrs. Lankford, Art Teacher

4th graders in Mrs. Lagano's class are learning about all things sight and sound! They experimented by sending visual and auditory clues across the classroom in code. It was so fun! Next they moved on to how sound waves travel via vibration. They explored this through the use of student-made "telephones".

5th Graders had the chance to model the phases of the moon on Oreos for some fun extra homework! - Mrs. Balgach/Mrs. Janssen - Grade 5 Teacher Team

Another ripple of kindness! One of these 4th-grade students has a personal connection to St. Jude's and wanted to organize a fundraiser to support the children's research hospital. The answer- ABSOLUTELY!
On Thursday, January 25th, the team will be selling elephant-themed water bottle stickers and charms for $1.00. Proceeds will go directly to St. Jude's. Thank you! 🐘💜

5th graders are working on their Astronomy project. Each 5th grader is creating a model (poster, slideshow, or 3D model) that explains a Spectacular Sight in the Sky.
