This workshop will provide parents and guardians with the knowledge, practical tools, and confidence to support their child with dyslexia at home and in school. The workshop provides an understanding of what dyslexia is, how it affects reading, spelling, writing, processing, and confidence, and how to advocate effectively within educational systems.

Parents will learn evidence-based strategies grounded in the science of reading, gain insight into structured literacy approaches, and explore practical accommodations. The workshop will address common myths about dyslexia, highlights strengths often associated with dyslexic thinking, and fosters a supportive community among families.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Define dyslexia accurately and distinguish it from common misconceptions and understand the strengths of a dyslexic learner.

  • Recognize the signs and characteristics of dyslexia across different ages and developmental stages.

  • Understand the science of reading, including phonological awareness, decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

  • Identify effective, evidence-based instructional approaches, including structured literacy principles.

  • Understand common school-based accommodations and interventions and how to request them appropriately.

  • Understand progress monitoring tools and strategies that educators use to measure student growth and track progress toward learning goals.
