In the first few weeks of the fall of the 2014-2015 school year all students in grades 7-10 were assigned a Google Chromebook notebook computer for use in school and at home. The 1-to-1 computer program rollout continued in the 2015-2016 school year with the addition of the 11th and 12th grades. Families with students in grades 7-12 received a communication over the summer with an included device sign out form. The form must be completed by parents and brought to school in order for students to receive a device.*Students will be assigned a new Chromebook to use for a period of 3 years prior to it being replaced by the district. The Chromebook computer is valued at $250. The device is the property of the school district. Just as with textbooks and other school-owned property assigned to students, parents and students will be held responsible for vandalism, theft, lost and/or excessive damage to the device beyond normal warranty. It is up to parents to decide whether or not to purchase 3rd party device insurance.

*Students will be assigned a new Chromebook for a period of 3 years prior to it being replaced.

Student Chromebooks come with a 3 year extended warranty and accidental service agreement. In addition to the included coverage, parents may opt to purchase 3rd party device insurance to ensure that the device is fully covered for the 3 years that it will be assigned to their child.

Coverage Options:

OPTION 1: Parents assume complete financial responsibility for the repair and/or replacement cost of the device ($250) in the event that the device is intentionally damaged, lost, or stolen. All student Chromebooks are covered by an included 3 year Chromebook Accidental Damage Service Agreement at no cost to families. This service agreement will cover losses due to handling including drops, spills, and electrical surges. It will not cover lost or stolen machines, intentional damage, vandalism, or damage from fire and acts of God (Lightning, floods, etc.). Parents must decide whether to seek or continue purchasing 3rd party Chromebook insurance coverage for these excluded items.

OPTION 2: In additional to the included coverage, parents may elect to purchase additional accidental damage insurance policy through the Worth Ave Group or another insurance vendor of their choice. The additional coverage protects against liquid submersion, theft, vandalism, fire, flood, and natural disasters. (Items not covered by the school district's included warrantee)

The district has partnered with the Worth Ave. Group in order to receive a discounted group rate for Granby families who would like to purchase policies. The insurance policy covers drops, spills, cracked screens, liquid submersion, fire, flood, natural disaster, power surge, theft, and vandalism. By purchasing the insurance parents can avoid being charged the fill Chromebook replacement fee of $275 in almost any case accept if a device is lost.

The cost of the insurance policy will vary based on the deductible selected and the coverage term. (One, Two, or Three years). The district expects students to use the same device for a period of no less than 3 years prior to it being replaced and so we recommend covering the device for 3 years.

Sample cost estimates for Accidental Damage Insurance coverage for the Chromebook:

$250 worth of coverage for 1 year with a $0 deductible would cost $35.10
$250 worth of coverage for 2 years with a $0 deductible would cost $68.64
$250 worth of coverage for 3 years with a $0 deductible would cost $99.45
