Immunization requirements for Granby Public Schools

Postural Screenings ("Scoliosis" Screenings)  Will be conducted by a school nurse for all 7th grade girls and 8th grade boys beginning Friday January 11th.

This procedure is a simple one to detect spinal problems in the growing child. Boys and girls will be screened in different locations.  Undergarments (bra or bathing suits for the girls) will be permitted to be worn.  Privacy will be provided for the screenings.  The screenings will be conducted during physical education class.

If the screening results are outside of acceptable parameters, parents will be notified to consult with their own physician for further evaluation.  If your child is already being monitored for scoliosis, your child can be exempt from the screening process if a note is provided from your physician.  Otherwise, the abnormal report will still be sent home for you to share with your physician.  If you have any questions, please contact the school clinic at 860-844-3038.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR Current 6th GRADERS

Section 10-206 of the Connecticut General Statutes requires that “...all students enrolled in the public schools have a health examination after the last day of 5th grade and submitted to the school prior to entry to grade 7."

If your child has not had the required physical exam yet, please download the Health Assessment Record from the clinic web page, or request a copy of the blue form from your school clinic, and schedule a physical.  The physician can update the immunization section that is included with the form.

If your child has already had his/her physical, please check your records or ask the physician if your student has met the immunization requirements. In most cases, it is easy to schedule a quick office visit for an immunization only.

The physical examination is a condition of enrollment and MUST include the starred areas on the form:

including the Immunization requirements section, starred on the form.

Children are not permitted to remain in grade 7 without having had the state-mandated physical
