In the first few weeks of the fall of the 2014-2015 school year all students in grades 7-10 were assigned a Google Chromebook notebook computer for use in school and at home. The 1-to-1 computer program rollout continued in the 2015-2016 school year with the addition of the 11th and 12th grades. Families with students in grades 7-12 received a communication over the summer with an included device sign out form. The form must be completed by parents and brought to school in order for students to receive a device.*Students will be assigned a new Chromebook to use for a period of 3 years prior to it being replaced by the district. The Chromebook computer is valued at $250. The device is the property of the school district. Just as with textbooks and other school-owned property assigned to students, parents and students will be held responsible for vandalism, theft, lost and/or excessive damage to the device beyond normal warranty. It is up to parents to decide whether or not to purchase 3rd party device insurance.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARENTS REGARDING THE CHROMEBOOK'S INCLUDED WARRANTY AND 3RD PARTY INSURANCE PURCHASE OPTIONS FOR PARENTS:
What type of warranty is included with the Chromebook that my child will receive?
Granby Public School's Chromebooks are covered with a 3 year basic warranty and Chromebook accidental damage service agreement at no cost to families. This service agreement will cover losses due to handling including drops, spills, and electrical surges. The agreement will not cover lost or stolen machines, intentional damage, vandalism, or damage from fire and acts of God (Lightning, floods, etc.).
Device insurance is affordable and protects families against ever having to pay a larger $250 cost for repair or replacement over the life of the device. The district expects students to use the same device for at least 3 years prior to it being replaced. Parents can choose from 1 to 3 year insurance renewal options with different deductible amounts. Insurance coverage includes: theft, fire, cracked screens, liquid submersion, vandalism, flood, natural disasters, and power surges.
Please see the included warranty and optional accidental damage insurance section of this website for more information including specifics on insurance options offered through the Worth Ave Group.
https://my.worthavegroup.com/granbyct is a customized website URL which will automatically apply a discount on policies purchased by Granby families. You must use the custom website address to receive the discount. Parents will need the Chromebook device's serial number located on the bottom of the Chromebook prior to ordering a policy. If you decide to purchase insurance the school district recommends insuring the Chromebook within the first few days of them being issued to students.
